CONSERVATION PROJECTS
Last Modified: May 3, 2006.

Trout Unlimited chapters are dedicated to the conservation, protection, and restoration of the Nation’s coldwater fisheries and their habitats. Those who enjoy and appreciate these valuable resources understand that they require constant efforts to care for and help maintain them. Watch our Calendar for scheduled conservation activities, and please volunteer for our stream conservation projects.

For many years, the National Capital Chapter has been in the forefront of healthy stream conservation projects conducted in our region and in other areas of the country. Some of our major efforts have involved the establishment of the Falling Spring Branch Greenway in Chambersburg, PA, and the restoration of Beaver Creek in western MD. Additional support has been provided to many stream conservation projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and in other parts of the country.

Regularly during the spring, summer, and fall, the Chapter organizes stream conservation workdays to recruit volunteers to plant vegetation along stream banks, work in streams to improve healthy flow and protect banks threatened by erosion, conduct stream clean-up projects, and help stock hatchery-raised fish. These activities are frequently joint efforts undertaken with other Trout Unlimited chapters, Federation of Fly Fishers chapters, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and a variety of state and local natural resources agencies. The workdays make enjoyable family outings and offer opportunities to introduce family members, including children, and friends and co-workers to the importance and value of stream conservation projects.

Remember, watch the Calendar, and volunteer for our stream conservation projects. Your efforts can make a difference.
