Our April Chapter meeting will address the important topic of safety while fly fishing, something we don't necessarily think about.

Our speaker, Mike Abramowitz, is a veteran fisherman who ties flies, builds rods, and fishes from a kayak.

Project Healing Waters: We recently sent an email announcing the possibility of our Chapter starting a new PHW program at the Washington VA Hospital.  Please contact us if you are interested in working on this.

Shad Fishing Season: The abrupt end to our unusually warm weather will slow down the advent of the shad fishing season, which is a good thing, according to Jim Cummins.  Mark Binsted has already issued his first two Shad Reports of the year.

There is  a triple-header of events on March 18: the Project Healing Waters Fly Tying Marathon, the Maryland Fly Fishing and Collectable Tackle Show, and the Lefty Kreh Tie Fest.  Take your pick!

Insect hatches on our regional trout streams should move back into line with their expected time frames as a result of the winter storm and cold spell.

Tight lines,

Each Spring the Chapter publishes email reports on the status of the shad run in the area, particularly as it develops on the Potomac River at Fletcher's Cove in DC. If you wish to receive these reports send an email from the address you want us to use to contact@ncc-tu.org with "SHAD" in the subject line. No need to re-subscribe if you received these reports in 2016.
The National Capital Chapter of Trout Unlimited (NCC-TU) is a non-profit organization
established to protect, enhance, and restore coldwater fishing resources of North America,
particularly those in the Mid-Atlantic region.
